Kickstand Kafe, located away from the hustle and bustle of downtown Flagstaff on a quiet side street, is a perfect choice for anyone seeking a more relaxed, local coffee house experience away from all the tourist crowds.

It's the perfect option for a casual business meeting, a relaxing espresso break, or a quick bite to eat and delicious drink before hiking at Snowbowl.

Food

Kickstand offers a full coffee bar, along with a light breakfast/lunch menu. Some breakfast options include pre-made burritos, sandwiches, and a tempting display of pastry sweets. They carry Udi's gluten-free muffins for anyone needing a gluten-free option.

The espresso drinks are definitely the tastiest in town: never burnt, just rich with flavor. They use the highly rated Italian espresso coffee and IIIy cafe, and the result is a smooth, perfectly flavored Americano.

They offer some interesting mocha choices including a Mint, Raspberry White Chocolate, and a Coconut. The Mint mocha is delicious, especially when substituted with creamy almond milk over regular dairy.

The Kickstart (brewed coffee with espresso) is a great choice for anyone who wants a strong drink with a real energy kick.

As the only downside, the menu is pretty pricey like the rest of Flagstaff businesses. A 20oz specialty mocha will set you back over $5! They also charge extra for additional shots and milk substitutions.

Unfortunately, you always need to add an extra shot as they do not have their ratios of water/espresso set up right, so a 12oz Americano will need an extra shot or it will be abnormally weak. Basically, 2 shots should be included in the regular price and you should only need to pay more if you want an extra strong drink.

Service

Service is surprisingly friendly for Flagstaff. Drinks were out in a matter of minutes. It also seems like they have more staff working at all times to accommodate the crowds, unlike places like Firecreek which only staff one person at a time! The ordering process goes much smoother here due to having more staff on hand.

Atmosphere

Although Kickstand looks like a tiny, cramped space from the outside, it is actually quite spacious inside. There are several couches and plenty of seating to actually accommodate people (unlike smaller shops in downtown).

The setting is relaxed and friendly with interesting local art to take in while you sip your drink. Board games and newspapers give you something to do if you feel like lounging around for a bit.

Overall, the tone is a bit more laid-back and less cramped than the downtown coffee shops. As one improvement, the music could be turned down a notch or 2 at least in the morning hours when guests are attempting to get some work done.

Final Remarks

Kickstand is one of your best bets in Flagstaff for delicious cup of joe or espresso, served by friendly baristas, in a casual environment. An attractive local, non-trendy, non-touristy vibe, great espresso drinks, and a convenient location on the way to the Snowbowl hikes, definitely makes Kickstand a winner in my book.
