Part of the fun in taking a trip to Las Vegas is staying amidst all the fun and excitement at a big casino resort right on The Strip. However, if budget, availability, or any other factor prevents you from booking a Strip hotel, you will want to look into a suitable option not too far away.

One of the best options, by far, is the South Point Hotel, a 4 star resort with affordable prices, a convenient airport shuttle, lots of great amenities, fantastic on site restaurants and entertainment, and a fabulous pool area.

Appearance

South Point has a clean, classy, old fashioned Vegas look. Nothing was ever overcrowded. The pool area, casino, restaurants, and rooms were all meticulously maintained. As one of the only downsides, they need to invest in a new ventilation system as the casino floor smelled incredibly smoky!

Amenities

The daily resort fee (which happens to be much cheaper than most of The Strip resorts) includes a convenient airport shuttle which leaves every hour or so to and from McCarran, internet access, access to the fitness center and pool, boarding pass printing, and a handy coupon book good for numerous on-site attractions and restaurants.

The airport shuttle really comes in handy for anyone flying as you do not need to rent an expensive car or cab. They also provide round trip transportation to The Strip for a small fee. The shuttle drivers are really friendly and make your stay all the more special!

The pool/hot tub area is one of the nicest in Vegas. I've never seen a large hot tub, and it was empty most of the time too! The pool area is clean and nicely landscaped with lots of palm trees. The vibe is very relaxing. Large oversized towels are provided.

Although the pool is only open seasonally (some may be surprised to find out that it gets really cold in the winter in Vegas!), the hot tub is open year round. For an extra fitness boost, sign up for poolside yoga during your stay.

The Costa del Sur Spa and Salon is a highly regarded Vegas spa. They offer 40,000 square foot of space, a couples area, and special seasonal treatments and packages. Look into the Pumpkin Massage and Body Scrub during the fall season!

On-site entertainment seems to be endless with a 16 screen movie theater, full size bowling alley, a showroom, bingo, and of course, the casino. You could easily stay at South Point your whole trip and never get bored!

Eight Bingo sessions are offered daily. Check your funbook for special coupons. The 400 seat showroom is a popular place to see various comedy acts like Jay Mohr and classic entertainers like Frankie Avalon.

You'll even find a nice Cinemark theater which offers $5 movies all day on Tuesday. If this isn't enough, get your game on at the bowling alley, which was rated the best in Vegas in both 2013 and 2014.

Upon check in, you will receive a valuable coupon book, which is good for various restaurants, shops, and on site entertainment. Be sure to scan through it before doing anything on site!

There are 11 dining choices at South Point, from casual choices like Steak and Shake and Coronado Cafe to a romantic fine dining choice in Don Vito's or Silverado Steakhouse. Or dine true Vegas style at the buffet, which is surprisingly good, and much lower priced than the fancy options on The Strip.

If you need your morning caffeine fix, your are in luck as there is a Seattle's Best on site. If visiting in winter, be sure to try out the White Chocolate Peppermint Mocha: absolutely delicious!

Michael's Gourmet Room is known to be one of the best restaurants in Vegas. It's won numerous awards over the years including the prestigious Top 5 Restaurants in Vegas awards by Zagat. If fine dining is your thing, you must give Michael's a try.

Don Vito's is an excellent old fashioned Italian restaurant with wonderful food, service, and a classy romantic vibe. It's the perfect choice for a romantic night out, without the hassle of driving or taking a shuttle to The Strip.

As you can see, there are more than enough restaurants, activities, and entertainment options to keep you more than busy during your stay!

Price

South Point is very affordable for a 4 star resort. The resort fee is at least 10 bucks cheaper than almost every Strip casino resort. Rates generally range from a low of $49 on weekdays to a high of $179 on weekends and during holiday periods.

It's not a bad deal really considering the oversized rooms, beautiful pool area, great amenities, and fantastic dining choices.

If you don't mind a quieter option and can put up with driving/taking a shuttle or cab to the strip, then you should be satisfied.

Room

The guest rooms at South Point are pretty basic with your standard amenities (a flat screen TV, coffee maker, and a comfortable bed - a Serta "Point Plush Sleeper."

On the plus side, the rooms are pretty spacious at 500 square feet- basic, yet clean and comfortable. Nothing to write home about, however, how fancy of a room do you really need? - After all, you are in Vegas!

Final Remarks

Overall, the South Point is your best bet if looking for a quiet, classy option off The Strip. You can't beat the price for a 4 star property. Convenient Strip access, an excellent Italian restaurant, a fabulous pool area, and great on-site entertainment make South Point my go to off The Strip resort.
